(Non-photonic) Cognitive Computational Performance
The human brain has inspired novel concepts complementary to classical and quantum computer architectures. Whilst we know that for certain computational problems, there is a speed-up for quantum algorithms over their classical counterparts, we do not know how the human brain and neuromorphic architectures compare.
Our group uses a mixture of methods drawn from the fields of physics, cognitive science, and computer science to investigate the computational efficiency of the human brain by benchmarking it against various computer architectures. We developed a new methodological framework to investigate cognitive performance based on computational complexity, by taking reaction time data from human participants and comparing their performances against computational algorithms and simulations
